Random Creative.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

So I was Googling myself today (yes I do it from time to time; I’ll admit it) and discovered that I’ve been added to Random Creative’s list! What is Random Creative, you ask?

This is a no-frills list of exceptional creative websites I’ve encountered on the internet, that I otherwise may not have found if [...]

Paper loves you.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

More charming valentines to choose from, this time from two designers new to me.
First up is Brooklyn-based Paper + Cup, founded by husband and wife team Truman and Minhee Cho. I like these vintage-style silhouettes, made modern. The two cards below are available at Luxe Paperie, and even more fresh items are available [...]

Emily Morris.

Gorgeous laser-cut paper panels by new UK designer Emily Morris.

If you’re going to be bitter about it…

..then at least make it look pretty. Check out Chicago-based Paper Stories‘ collection of five Bittersweet letterpressed greeting cards, with notes like “Thanks… for nothing” and “You just suck the life out of me”.

The cheekiness of these cards reminds me of Cake and Milk’s “retarded” card - love it!
See more in their Etsy shop [...]

What?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Well, hello, what have we here? Four downloadable, printable, do-it-yourself paper bird toys from illustrator Josh McKible. I wouldn’t mind perching one of these on my desk, and McKible’s approach to putting these out there resonates with me for some reason…

For more on McKible (also known as mckibillo), check out his visually striking, [...]

Call me?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I don’t really get what sort of place calling cards have in a day when all it takes to swap digits is to pull out your cell phone, but I can’t help but feel a little nostalgic for them. Names and numbers are so much prettier in personalized print than pixels. Alas! [...]

Check one.

Here it is - a printable valentine with a young-at-heart message but a grown-up look, available in pink and red. Send it or slip it into someone’s desk just for fun - or to press the issue with the most evasive of suitors.

To print this to a #10-sized card, you’ll need:

#10 flat cards in [...]

More paper love.

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Even more valentines to give and hope to receive…
From Snow & Graham, cupcake (I am sensing a theme) and hibiscus motifs.

A little negativity is allowed on Valentine’s Day, and Egg Press lets you to indulge with this silly skunk.

I also like the simplicity and clean lines of these two designs, also from Egg Press.

The cards [...]

Say that you love me.

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I’ve been so busy these last few weeks that I only just realized there is less than a month until Valentine’s Day. This means an abundance of sweet greetings, the best of which I’ll continue to post until the 14th (along with printable ones of my own, of course, which are in the works). [...]

Math goes glam.

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

…with Nervous System’s math- and biology-inspired jewelry line, founded by MIT grads Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg. They use stainless steel and silicone rubber to give physical form to computer-generated, vaguely neurological abstract shapes.

If you’re looking to take your own nerdiness in both hands, you can even run an applet on their website that [...]

Porcelain and ceramic.

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Beautiful vessels, some with a modern flair and some with an updated vintage feel…
Australian artist Tania Rollond creates these simply-shaped, matte white vases decorated with finely wrought oxide drawings. I really love how the subtle colors and delicate linework of these vaguely natural forms play against the clean white. The names of her [...]

Supermundane.

Friday, January 11th, 2008

…is anything but.
I came across the work of London-based artist Supermundane (a.k.a. Rob Lowe) via Happy Cavalier and like what I’m seeing! Something about these intricately drawn pieces calls to mind traditional Chinese landscape…

…and of course I love these droll beasties.

Here’s Supermundane at work on a wall drawing (and you know I like [...]
