Zen, and a new year.

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend! I immensely enjoyed the little lull and spent most of it cooking, mugging for photos, and sleeping.
So perhaps it’s because they are aligned with my state of mind, but I’m loving these Zen-inducing photographs from Lobster and Swan (also see their etsy shop), Pam Garrison, and Sköna [...]

Oh-nine.

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

We just got pummeled with snow all weekend, so I’ve been holed up - staying warm, making delicious chili, falling asleep without warning, and thinking about flipping the page to balmier months.
Speaking of which - with 2009 just around the corner, it’s a good time to do a little survey of my favorite calendars. [...]

Love these pleasingly subdued yet carefully crafted household wants from Anthroplogie…

Pretty packages.

My mom always foists the job of wrapping gifts onto me, but it’s one chore I never mind - and how could I, when there are items like these to work with?

Shown above are an assortment of handmade graphic wrapping papers from Rifferaff (fantastic blog here on the crafting biz); candy cane wrapping paper from [...]

Just avoid the licorice ones.

Portland-based Stubby Pencil Studio updates the idea with these eco-friendly colored “smencils” made of recycled newspaper - fun! [...]

Pretty much irresistible.

Evan and Nichole Robertson’s Little Brown Pen offers downloadable stationery and gift templates for sale on their etsy shop, to which you “just. add. paper.” Just added are templates for their holiday-themed items to give and keep. Watch their sweet video for a demonstration.

Too… cute. Cannot. Handle.

Noodle soup.

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Not to go off topic or anything, but I must share with you the Noodle Soup Oracle.

Somehow, all the combinations come out sounding delicious. Julie and I cannot decide - were the noodle soups all entered as is? Or does the algorithm make them up on the fly? The first way seems [...]

Some recent custom work…

…for birthday people of all ages.

O, snow.

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Ok I had a last little taste of sunshine and beaches over Thanksgiving, but now that I’m back home, I pretty much have winter to look forward to (and I’ve armed myself with a big coat accordingly). However, it’s not all doom and gloom - you know I love the design work that proliferates [...]

A graphic a day.

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Maine graphic artist Christopher David Ryan (of keyboard shortcut fame) posts one of his pieces each day on his website, making for a very cool web gallery. His work exhibits a range of styles, but my personal favorites are ones like these, which use text and simple graphics to make clever effects.
